C TCSS Tone Wiring

For those wanting to add a "CTCSS" tone board to your Ranger, we have provided below, the written instructions and included a .jpg drawing.

TS-64    TE-32    SS-64   


For Comspec's TS-64 CTCSS encoder/decoder board:

TS-64

1. Locate a row of 9 eyelets on the right front section of the main pcb. These eyelets are labeled as follows:
AF I/P; AF O/P, GA, SQ, 8V O/P, PTT, GND, MOD I/P, MOD O/P

2. Wire as below:

 TS-64 Pinout
Connection points on the radio
 
 + Voltage (Red) (Pin 1)   8V O/P Eyelet
 Ground (Blk) (Pin 2)  Gnd Eyelet
 PTT Input (Orange) (Pin 8)  Gnd Eyelet
 CTCSS Output (Yellow) (Pin 6)  Base Of Q28 With A 100 K Ohm Resistor In Series
 Rx Mute Output (White) (Pin 5)  SQ Eyelet
 Discriminator Input (Green) (Pin 4)
 High Pass Filter Output (Blue) (Pin 7)
 For these two hookups, perform the following steps:
 1. Locate C38 & R41 on the main pcb
 2. Cut the trace between C38 & R41
 3. Connect discriminator input to C38 side
 4. Connect high pass filter output to R41 side
Note: set the deviation level of the CTCSS output to 750hz

    *If reverse phase burst is desired, perform the following steps:
      A. Locate J10 on the main pcb.
      B. Cut the purple wire labeled PT, insert the PTT input and PTT output on the TS-64 in series with the purple wire (the TS-64 will now control the transmit PTT line).

For Comspec's SS-64 CTCSS encoder board:

SS-64

1. Locate a row of 9 eyelets on the right front section of the main pcb. These eyelets are labeled as follows:
AF I/P; AF O/P, GA, SQ, 8V O/P, PTT, GND, MOD I/P, MOD O/P

2. Wire as below:

 SS-64 CTCSS Encoder
Connection points on the radio
 
 + Voltage (Red) (Pin 1)   Collector of Q49 (TX+)
 (This will allow the SS-64 to start encoding in less than 10ms)
 Ground (Blk) (Pin 2)  Gnd Eyelet
 CTCSS Output (Yellow) (Pin 3)  Base of Q28 with a 100K Ohm resistor in series
Note: set the deviation level of the CTCSS output to 750hz

    *If reverse phase burst is desired, perform the following steps:
      A. Locate J10 on the main pcb.
      B. Cut the purple wire labeled PT, insert the PTT input and PTT output on the SS-64 in series with the purple wire (the SS-64 will now control the transmit PTT line).
      C. + Voltage: connect to 8V O/P eyelet (do not connect to TX+).
      D. On SS-64: install jumpers on JP1 & JP2.

For Comspec's TE-32 CTCSS encoder:

TE-32

1. Locate a row of 9 eyelets on the right front section of the main pcb. These eyelets are labeled as follows:
AF I/P; AF O/P, GA, SQ, 8V O/P, PTT, GND, MOD I/P, MOD O/P

2. Wire as below:

 TE-32 CTCSS Encoder
Connection points on the radio
 
 + Voltage (Red)   Collector of Q49 (TX+)
 (This will allow the TE-32 to start encoding in less than 10ms)
 Ground (Blk)  Gnd Eyelet
 CTCSS Output (White)  Base of Q28 with a 100K Ohm resistor in series
 Shield  Ground (main PCB)
Note: set the deviation level of the CTCSS output to 750hz

 

    *If reverse phase burst is desired, perform the following steps:
      A. Locate J10 on the main pcb.
      B. Cut the purple wire labeled PT, insert the PTT input and PTT output on the TE-32 in series with the purple wire (the SS-64 will now control the transmit PTT line).
      C. + Voltage: connect to 8V O/P eyelet (do not connect to TX+).
      D. On SS-64: install jumpers on JP1 & JP2.
